earScientists at the University of Chicago are studying how the frequency of vibrations plays a role in our sense of touch.

“We’re trying to build a theory of what makes things feel the way they feel,” said Dr. Sliman Bensmaia, lead author of a new study published in the Journal of Neuroscience. One application for this work may be to simulate the sense of touch in artificial limbs by stimulating nerves at the appropriate timing and frequency.
