MARYSVILLE, Ind. | A southern Indiana man says his wife lost parts of both her legs when the family’s home collapsed onto her Friday as she was shielding their two children from a devastating tornado.
Joe Decker tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., that his 36-year-old wife, Stephanie Decker, lost one leg above the knee and the other above the ankle. She was listed in serious condition Monday at University Hospital in Louisville.
Decker says the couple’s 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter weren’t injured when Friday’s tornado tore through the town of Marysville.
He says he was at work Friday when Stephanie huddled in the basement of the couple’s three-story home, covering the children with her body to shield them when the tornado pulverized their home and debris fell onto her.
