-
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, February 24, 2009 — Alexander Lyons, CPO, President of Lyons Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O), Inc. organized and presented as a guest speaker at Waccamaw Community Hospital for an educational in-service (forum) that addressed wound care management specifically focusing on lower extremity amputations. Over 40 top health care professionals met Tuesday morning to discuss wound care protocols. The primary presenters were Dr. Paul Sasser, MD, Pam Mitchell, RN, and Alexander Lyons, CPO.
Some of the topics discussed were common types of wounds, various causes of wounds, and successful treatments of wounds. New cost effective treatments and wound dressings were also presented by ConvaTec. Dr. Sasser discussed vascular protocols for pre-amputations and post-amputations.
"One of the biggest benefits of having an in-service as a forum (assembly for open discussion) is that it allows various health care professionals to share openly their experiences about a specific topic within the realm of their practices," said Alexander Lyons. "The forum is a place to share ideas, discuss relevant issues that affect patients, and establishes partnerships in a cooperative effort to provide the highest quality service to patients."
Present at the in-service forum were vascular surgeons, nurses, therapists, medical directors, and O&P professionals.
